Dr Abu Ameenah Bilal Philips

Founder: Islamic Online University

Dr Abu Ameenah Bilal Philips is a Jamaican Canadian Islamic Scholar who converted to Islam in the early seventies after journeying politically and intellectually from Chiristianity to Communinsm. Shortly after his reversion to Islam, he embarked on a spiritual academic journey to the other side of the world seeking Islamic knowledge. This jouney took him to Saudi Arabia where he completed a BA in Islamic Studies in Madeenah, and an MA in Islamic Theology in Riyadh, then to the University of Wales, UK, where he completed a PhD in Islamic Theology in the early nineties.

Bela Khan is a Lecturer of Psychology, a life coach, author of two books and a

Homeschooling Mom. She trains passion-driven women to rise above their challenges,

move past their obstacles and live a life of fulfillment by making a difference in this

world. She has a passion for learning and teaching about mental health, human

behavior and neuroscience.

She holds an M.Phil degree in Microbiology from Quaid-e-Azam University, Pakistan

and a Master degree in Psychology. She intends to pursue her journey towards Ph.D.

soon, in Sha Allah. She has many certifications in the field of personal development,

parenting, relationships, entrepreneurship, and leadership. 

Her areas of interests include religion, neuroscience, high performance and positive

psychology. Working with women and teenage girls to overcome their depression and

healing their emotional self is her expertise, bidhnillah.

She delivers various trainings in the field of personal development, marital success,

high performance, life coaching, and parenting.

She also holds her diplomas in Quran Tafseer and Hadith. Therefore, she loves

combining the concepts of Psychology with the divine principles of Islam.

Dr Abu Eesa worked as a software developer for a number of years before completing a PhD in Medical Imaging writing software for chemotherapy response prediction in breast cancer patients at the University of Hull, UK. As a postdoc he took on the post of Research Fellow automating disease detection in retinal images at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland. In his most recent post up until 2017 he held the post of Research Software engineer with the National Phenome Centre at Imperial College London. Dr Abu Eesa is also a part time student on the BAIS course at International Online University. He currently holds a BSc (Hons) in Computer Science, MSc in .NET and Distributed systems and a PhD in Medical Imaging all if which he obtained from the University of Hull, UK.

Dr. Bilal Ahmed Usmani received PhD in Mathematical Biology from University of Glasgow in 2016 and M. Phil. in Mathematics from Karachi University in 2009. He has over a decade of teaching and research experience and has authored several research papers. He currently works as a full-time faculty member at NED University of Engineering and Technology in Karachi, Pakistan.

Abu Humayd, Abang Sufri Mahmud was born in the city of Miri in Borneo Malaysia in 1983. He went to government-run Islamic schools since he was 13 years old; first to SMK (A) Sheikh Hj Othman Bin Abdul Wahhab, Kuching, and later to SMK Agama Miri, both in the state of Sarawak, Malaysia.

Sufri Mahmud then obtained a Diploma in Public Administration from MARA University of Technology (UiTM), Malaysia, and he was awarded the Best Student of the program in 2005. He later obtained his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration (BBA) majoring in International Business with 1st class honors, also from UiTM. He has been studying in the BA in Islamic Studies (BAIS) program of IOU since 2011 and is currently studying the Qur`an and its tafseer under an Albanian scholar, Shaykh Ibrahim Zaimaj Al-Albani, who is recognized and recommended by Shaykh Shu`ayb Al-Arna`oot, an infamous hadeeth scholar of the present time. At the same time, he also studies Saheeh Muslim under Shaykh `Abdurrahman Bin `Abdul Kareem Al-`Uthmaan, who had studied under the late Shaykh Al-`Uthaymeen and Shaykh `Abdul Muhsin Al-`Abbad in Saudi Arabia.

Between 2012 and 2014, Sufri Mahmud conducted various corporate trainings in Kuala Lumpur and Miri in Malaysia on the topics including customer service, business management, and entrepreneurship. He has been an approved trainer by Human Resource Development Fund (HRDF) in Malaysia since 2013. He moved to the state of Selangor, Malaysia, in 2014 and joined Daarul Hadeeth Treatment Centre, concentrating on treating people who suffered from demonic possession and other related illnesses by using ruqyah shar`eeyah, based on the Qur`an and the Sunnah. After that, in 2015, he joined Yayasan Ta`lim, a da`wah organization in Malaysia, and helped them established a Diploma in Islamic Studies program. He left the organization to join IOU full-time in early 2016 as a country representative and as an assistant lecturer.

Apart from that, he also teaches, lectures, and teaches courses in various masajid and Islamic centres in Malaysia including Masjid Ash-Shareef in Klang, Masjid Al-Mustaqeem in Ampang, Yayasan Ta`lim in KualaLumpur, and others. He has authored and translated a number of books on various topics, mainly on the tazkiyah an-nafs (purification of the soul), ruqyah shar`eeyah (Islamic exorcism), and others that have been published and sold nationwide

Ahmad Abdel-Wahab has a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Maryland.  In 2005, he was accepted into the Islamic University of Madeenah, and began his B.A in the College of Islamic Law.  

He memorized the Qur'an whilst in America, with Tajweed and mastery under the guidance of his noble teacher, Shaykh Muhammad al-Raaee.  He studied the Qur’an and the classical texts in the masjids from the scholars of Madeenah, and received an Ijaaza in Qur'an and Tajweed from his noble teacher, Shaykh Salaah Shabaana- a teacher of Qur'an in the Prophet's Masjid.  He studied the book 'Umdat al-Fiqh by Ibn Qudaama under the guidance of his noble teacher, Shaykh Abdul-Khaliq Naaqru- one of the major students of Shaykh Muhammad ibn Muhammad al-Mukhtaar ash-Shanqeetee.
Currently Ahmad Abdel-Wahab teaches Qur'an and Tajweed in the Prophet's Masjid in Madeenah.  He also teaches Fiqh classes to students in Saudi Arabia and the United States.

Alieu Gibba, is a Gambian by nationality and a full-time lecturer in the School of Business & Public Administration, Department of Economics and Management Sciences, The University of The Gambia.

A born Muslim and currently blessed with two children, he has devoted much time in seeking of both Islamic and conventional knowledge. After the completion of his master's degree in the field of Agricultural Economics, from Taiwan's most prestigious and comprehensive university, National Taiwan University, he has devoted his time to Da'wah and presenting Islamic Lectures in The Gambia and beyond.

Ayesha Muhammad Basheer is from Islamabad, Islamic Republic of Pakistan. She completed her basic Islamic and Arabic education from the Institute of Arabic Language, in Pakistan. She earned a bachelor's degree from the University of the Punjab, Pakistan. In 2008 she completed her M-Phil degree in Hadeeth & Its Sciences with distinction from the Department of Hadeeth, Faculty of Usulud Din, International Islamic University in Islamabad Pakistan.

She is currently pursuing her doctorate in Hadeeth & Sciences of Hadeeth from IIUI Pakistan where she worked as part time visiting faculty member from 2006 to 2013. In 2014 she joined Islamic Online University as an instructor.

Abdoul Karim Diaw is currently the managing director of Al-Itqan Conseil et Formation en Finance Islamique (ACOFFIS), which is a consulting firm based in Senegal. He completed his PhD in Islamic finance at the International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF) where he used to be a teaching/research assistant. He holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Islamic Banking and Finance (International Islamic University Malaysia), a Master and Bachelor degrees in Mathematics (Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar-Senegal). He has also received a Brevet d'arabe litteral (Diploma in literal Arabic - Universite de la Sorbonne Nouvelle /France).

Dr Diaw has been published in refereed journals and has presented several papers at international conferences on Islamic finance.

DR. ABU AMEENAH BILAL PHILIPS is a Jamaican – Canadian Islamic scholar who converted to Islam in 1972. He completed a BA from the Islamic University of Medina, an M.A. from King Saud University in Riyadh, and a PhD in Islamic Theology from the University of Wales, UK (1994). 

Dr Bilal spent ten years teaching Islamic studies in an Islamic high school in Riyadh, and another 18 years lecturing in Arabic and Islamic studies in the American University in Dubai, UAE, the Islamic Studies Academy in Doha, Qatar, Knowledge International University of Riyadh, and Preston International College, Chennai, India.  

Dr Bilal Philips has written, translated and commented on over 50 published books on various Islamic topics and presented Islamic programs on Riyadh Channel 2TV, Sharjah TV, Peace TV, Huda TV, Islam Channel, UK, and the Deen Show, Chicago, USA and GuideUS TV, from Washington USA. 

But perhaps his greatest achievement, and the one for which he was listed in the Jordanian publication, among “The 500 Most Influential Muslims”, is his historic founding of the mega-university, the Islamic Online University, which has in only 7 years since its inception over 270,000 students registered from 228 different country around the world! 

 

Accomplishments

 

He has written, translated and commented on over 50 published books on various Islamic topics, as well as edited and published the 56-book Eemaan reading series for children.  He has also presented Islamic programs for many years on; Riyadh Channel 2 TV, Sharjah TV, Peace TV, Huda TV, Islam Channel, and the Deen Show.

 

1980 – 1990: Taught Arabic and Islamic Studies at Manaret Riyadh Secondary School in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

 

1986: Began the first translation of the Friday Sermon into English in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia at the Mosque of Dr Abdur Rahman Al-Luwaihiq.

 

1988: Participated in the establishment of the first Islamic Center in Bat’ha, Riyadh, and his book “The True Religion of God”, was among the first books used to propagate Islam among foreign workers.

 

1989: Published my first books: Polygamy in Islam, The Devils Deception, The Mirage in Iran, Khomeini: Moderate or Fanatical Shi’ite

 

1990: Published Islamic Studies Book 1, The Fundamentals of Tawheed, and The Evolution of Fiqh.

 

1991-2: Led a team of Islamic propagators which converted over 3,000 American soldiers in Khobar, Saudia Arabia, after the 1st Gulf War.

 

1993 – 2003: Taught Arabic and Islamic Studies at the American University in Dubai.

 

1993 – 2003: Set up and ran the first Islamic Center in the UAE for Dar al – Birr Charity, in Dubai.

 

2001: Established the first Friday sermon (Khutbah) in English in the UAE, at Qasbah Mosque, Sharjah, UAE.

 

1993 – 2002: Set up and ran the English Department of Dar al Fatah Islamic Press, in Sharjah, UAE. Published more than 80 books.

 

2001 – 2004: Dr Bilal established and headed the faculty of Islamic Studies at Preston University Ajman, UAE, and lectured in the University of Ajman.

 

2003 – 2010: Consulted for and lectured at the Qatar Guest Center of Sh Eid Al Thani Charity, Doha, Qatar 

 

2007 – Present: Launched and headed the Islamic Online University (IOU) Free Islamic Studies Diploma, online from Doha, Qatar.

 

2007 – 2011: Established and was Dean of the Islamic Studies Academy, affiliated with Omdurman Islamic University, Omdurman, Sudan.

 

2008 – 2009: Established and lectured in the English Islamic Studies section of Knowledge International University founded by Sh. Dr. Sa’d Al Shithri.

 

2009 – 2010: Director of PERF, and as Supervising Director he founded the first Islamic University in India “Preston International College (www.prestonchennai.ac.in)” and along with it, Al-Fajr International School (www.al-fajrinternational.com), in Chennai, India.

 

2010 – Present: Launched the BAIS (Bachelors of Arts in Islamic Studies) online. Affiliated IOU with Wishes University, Davao, Philippines.

 

2011: Affiliated IOU with Muhamadiyyah University, Sukabumi, Indonesia

.

2012: Established the first office of IOU in Hargeisa, Somaliland, and obtained accreditation for IOU from the Ministry of Education of Somaliland. Ranked among the 500 most influential Muslims in the world 

 

2013: Established the first learning Center for IOU in the Gambia and launched the IEC (Intensive English Course) for madrasah graduates as a bridge to IOU’s BAIS.

 

2014: Obtained accreditation for IOU from the Ministry of Education of Somalia, Mogadeshu.

 

2014 – Present: Launched the Bachelors of Arts in Education and Islamic Banking and Finance, and the Bachelors of Science in Psychology at IOU.

 

2015 - Present: Launched the Bachelors of Science in Business Administration and Information Technology. Also launched the Masters of Arts in Islamic Studies (MAIS). Obtained degree recognition and a license for operation for IOU in the Gambia. Launched the IEC in Somaliland in collaboration with the government. Established an IOU Learning Center in Sierra Leone.

 

2016: Established the official headquarters on the ground for IOU in Banjul, Gambia. Established an IOU a Learning Center and obtained provisional accreditation from the NCHE of Malawi, East Africa. Established an IOU Learning Center in Luzon, Philippines.

 

2017: Established an IOU Learning Center in Marawi City, Mindanao, Philippines.

Dr. Daud Abdullah was born in Grenada where he received his early education.  He obtained his first degree from the University of Guyana in 1981, and was awarded a scholarship to study Arabic language at King Saud University in Saudi Arabia. In 1984 he joined the University of Khartoum, Sudan to pursue postgraduate studies and was awarded his doctorate in 1989.
He has written and translated several works on Islam, and his last post in Saudi Arabia was as editor and translator at the Abul Qasim Publishing House in Jeddah.
At present he lectures in Islamic Studies at Birkbeck College, University of London.  He is also a khateeb at Masjid an Noor in west London, and the Deputy Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Britain.

Dr Ebraheem Dawy is from Egypt.  In 2003 he obtained a Master’s Degree from the Faculty of Arts at Menofia University, Egypt.  He then went on to study at Ain Shams University where he gained his PhD from the Arabic Department of the Faculty of Arts in 2008.
He is an Arabic teacher for the Ministry of Education, as well as a faculty member of the University of Netherlands which teaches Arabic online.

Dr. Farah Islam  is a postdoctoral fellow in the Social Aetiology of Mental Illness (SAMI) program at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health and the University of Toronto in Toronto, Canada. She completed her doctorate at York University (Toronto, Canada) in the field of epidemiology. She explores mental health and service access in Canada`s racialized and immigrant populations, employing both quantitative epidemiology and mixed methods research. Dr.Farah Islam orients her research and community work around breaking down the barriers of mental health stigma.

Professor Dr. G. Hussein Rassool is the Dean for the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Sciences and Head of the Department of Psychology. Professor Dr. G. Hussein Rassool holds a Ph.D. in Psychology and Education (University of London), M.Sc. in Health Education, and a B.A. in Psychology. He is an academic advisor, independent consultant in addiction and mental health, and Clinical consultant/ Executive director Islamic Online Counselling Service. He also works part-time as an Islamic psychotherapist. Professor Dr. G.Hussein Rassool has been a visiting professor of psychology of addiction and mental health at the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil. His previous experience was as a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Addictive Behaviour & Psychological Medicine, St George's Hospital Medical School (University of London), England where he developed many unique academic programmes. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Public Health and served as News Editor/Editorial Board Member of international journals in the UK, USA and Brazil. He is an author /editor of eight books and has published over 100 papers and reviews. Some of his published books include Cultural Competence in Caring for Muslim Patients; Addictive Behaviours: Theory & Clinical Practice, Alcohol and Drug Misuse, Dual Diagnosis and Islamic Counselling. His forthcoming book is on Evil Eye, Jinn Possession and Mental Health: An Islamic perspective (Routledge)

Professor Dr. Malik Badri obtained his B.A. (with distinction) and his Masters from the American University of Beirut. He further obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Leicester, England and his Postgraduate Certificate of Clinical Psychology from the Academic Department of Psychiatry of the Middlesex Hospital Medical School of London University. He was elected Fellow of the British Psychological Society and is a Chartered Psychologist. In recognition to his contributions in his field he was awarded an honorary D.Sc. from the Ahfad University and was with the medal of Shahid Zubair which is the highest award for academic excellence. Professor Badri has been  Professor and Dean in various universities including Dean of the Faculties of Education in the University of Khartoum and Juba University and the Acting Dean of the International Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilization of the International Islamic University, Malaysia. Professor Badri also served as senior clinical psychologist in a number of hospitals and clinics in the Middle East and Africa and was the founder of the Psychological Clinic of the University of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.  He was  Holder of the prestigious Chair of Ibni Khaldun in the Faculty of Revealed Knowledge and Human Science of the International Islamic University in Malaysia. He has published widely in psychology and education and his works has been translated into many languages of the Islamic world. His research  interests include: Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Islamic Psychology, Social Psychology and Islamic Studies.

Dr. Mohammad Monzur-E-Elahi has PhD in Islamic Shariah with specialization in Usulul Fiqh from Islamic University of Madinah, K.S.A. Currently, he is an assistant professor of Department of Islamic Studies at National University of Bangladesh, Gazipur. Many of Dr. Monzur-E-Elahi articles and books were published such as Analogical Reasoning in Islamic Worship, Islamic Rulings on Bribery, An Introduction to the Objectives of Islamic Law, and others.

Dr. Muhammad Abdullah Azad holds Ph.D. in Information Technology from Finland. He joined IOU in 2015 and since then he has been working as the Head of the Information Technology Department. Dr. Azad has over 13 years of research and teaching experience. He has served at several universities in Pakistan and Finland. He has taught various courses and has supervised a number of undergraduate projects and postgraduate theses. He has authored more than 30 research publications and has presented his work in a number of international conferences. He is also a frequent reviewer for various international journals and conferences. Dr. Azad has received 5 research excellence awards and a best paper award. In the last 5 years, his papers have received more than 400 citations.

In the fields of education, development studies and globalisation, his research has gained international recognition.

In addition to authoring several books, Dr Ahsan has produced a large number of reports and research papers published in various refereed international journals. He has extensively travelled and delivered a large number of lectures in various international conferences and seminars. He has also delivered numerous lectures and online training on academic research, writing and publishing.

His most recent publication is: Academic Research, Writing and Publishing - A Practical Handbook for PhD Students and Academic Researchers. In addition to his multi-dimensional academic and professional background, one of Dr Ahsan's research focuses has also been on issues related to international political economy, human (under-)development and human (in-)security in the contemporary Muslim World. His thoughts have influenced in fixing priorities and directions for the Muslim World. His research has also been a part of the curricula of various universities around the world.

Dr. Muhammad Anwar Sahib Almadani was born in Fiji and spent part of his life also studying there.  At the age of 14 he went to the Islamic University of Madeenah to study the Arabic language course.  He continued to study in the high school of the University which he graduated from in 1985, and then furthered his study in the Faculty of Islamic Creed and Dawah.  In 1989 he earned his B.A from this faculty, as well as acquired a special certificate in Dawah.  After enrolling in the Faculty of Quran he gained a Masters qualification in 1994, and then a doctorate in Quran exegesis in 1999.

He has presented Islamic programs on Voice of Islam, New Zealand and various radio channels as well as delivered lectures in various topics mostly in New Zealand, but also in Saudi Arabia, USA, Australia, Fiji, Malaysia, India, Qatar, Papua New Guinea, and Solomon Islands. He has also written books in Arabic and English that are yet to be published.

Additionally, he is a founding member and chairman of At-Taqwa Trust, Auckland, New Zealand.  His current roles include that of Imaam, Khateeb and religious advisor.  He is also the Secretary for the Ulama Board of New Zealand and advisor for halal issues to the NZ government.

Dr. Nissar Ahmad Yatoo completed a Ph.D. in Finance with specialization in Islamic Finance in the Department of Banking Technology at the Pondicherry University. Dr Sutan Emir is an assistant professor and academic advisor for Islamic Banking and Finance at the University College of Bahrain (UCB). At the UCB, Dr. Hidayat is also a member of the Academic Research Committee (ARC) and Examination Committee (EC). He joined UCB in September 2007 after spending two academic years at the International Islamic College Malaysia (IIC) as the lecturer and subject coordinator for Islamic Finance courses. In addition, Dr. Hidayat is also a part time lecturer for Islamic Accounting Standards (AAOIFI) at the Centre of Islamic Finance, Bahrain Institute of Banking and Finance (BIBF). In BIBF, Dr. Hidayat also serves as a member of the advisory committee for the Centre of Islamic Finance and External Research Associates.

Dr. Hidayat obtained both his PhD in Islamic Banking and Finance in 2013 and his MBA in Islamic Banking and Finance in 2005 both from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). Dr. Hidayat is actively engaged with academic research in his field. He has presented several papers at international conferences held by the Islamic Research and Training Institute (IRTI) of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) (2007, 2008, 2011), Qatar Foundation (2011), AAOIFI - World Bank Annual Conference on Islamic Banking and Finance (2011 and 2012), GRM 2012 at University of Cambridge, UK and other reputable conferences. In 2014, one of his co-authored research papers was accepted for presentation at the 11th University Forum on Islamic Finance which was held on April 25-27, 2014 at Harvard Law School, Massachusetts, the USA. Dr. Hidayat also writes articles that regularly appear in the Islamic Finance News (IFN-Red Money), and one of his articles was also published in the Global Islamic Finance Magazine, UK and The Bahrain Banker (Winter 2012). He is also a sector correspondent for Takaful and Retakaful, IFN (Red Money).

Dr. Hidayat has published several research papers in peer reviewed international journals. Among them are the Journal of Economics and Finance, CCSE, the International Research Journal of Finance and Economics, the International SAMANM Journal of Finance and Accounting, the Journal of US-China Public Administration, the Journal of Pedagogical and Innovations and other reputable journals. In addition, he is also a reviewer for the International Journal of Islamic and Middle Eastern Finance and Management, Emerald Publishing Ltd, UK and a member of the editorial board of SAMANM Group research publications.

During his academic career, he also contributed chapters to three books entitled "Issues in Islamic Management: Theories and Practices" (IIUM Press, 2011), "Muhammadiyah dan tantangan abad baru" (Matan press, KL, 2010) and "Islamic Capital Markets, Products, Regulation and Development" (IRTI-IDB, 2008). He has also contributed articles to reputable Indonesian newspapers. During his stay in Bahrain, Dr. Hidayat managed to completely supervise 8 MBA theses and 5 graduation projects (NYIT-Bahrain) and examined 5 MBA theses and 3 graduation projects both as an Internal and external examiners.

In early 2013, Dr. Hidayat was contributed to developing examination questions for CIPA professional certificates offered by the Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI). In addition, he also worked with the External Validation Committee for Advanced Diploma in Islamic Commercial Jurisprudence at BIBF. Furthermore, he is an active member of the Indonesian community serving as the Vice-President of Indonesian Community in Bahrain (Nov 2012-Oct20013) and a commissioner of the special task force for the 2014 Indonesian general election to be held in Bahrain. He also teaches part time at the Islamic Online University (IOU) and the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT)-Bahrain. Dr. Uvais Ahmed Qidwai attained his Bachelor of Science degree in 1994 from the NED University of Engineering and Technology in Pakistan.  He completed his Master’s degree in 1997 at the King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals in Saudi Arabia, and in 2001 completed his Ph.D(EE) from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in the USA.

Gora Faal is currently a Program Developer and Trainer at Khamsys Technologies Ltd. He is a Certified Instructor/Trainer, (certified by the U.S. Dept. of Defense) a Scholar, (Social Scientist) an Engineer, (Sound Designer) and a former military leader (US Army) who has acquired a vast range of training & instructing experiences from various professional assignments handling classes of up to 100 personnel. During 8 years of military service, (active duty) he had the opportunity to train personnel (new recruits & seasoned team members) in the fields of Professionalism, Management, Leadership, Physical Training, Risk Management, Environmental Safety/Awareness, and Career Counseling. After only 3 years out of an 8-year service, Gora Faal was appointed as a military leader, to lead troops in Germany. Due to his professionalism and with a stellar approach to operation orders and mission, he was awarded the US Army Commendation Medal, for service in Macedonia & Kosovo. Prior to this recognition, Gora Faal was also awarded the Vanguard Soldier of the Year Award, that also earned him the Iron-Man Trophy, it is only awarded to one personnel member, annually, in recognition of their high level of professionalism, out of a battalion of 800 professional troops.

Besides a very successful military career, Gora Faal also had the opportunity to explore the civil-sector work environment, gaining useful knowledge and experiences in insurance, (sales) security, and filmmaking (as a sound engineer).

Hooman Keshavarzi is a Licensed Psychotherapist in Illinois, completed his Psy.D (to be conferred), holds a Masters of Clinical Psychology and a Bachelors of Science – specialist psychology track/minor in Islamic Studies.  He is currently an Adjunct Professor of Psychology at Argosy University Chicago, American Islamic College, Hartford Seminary, instructor of psychology at Islamic Online University and founding director of Khalil Center – the first Islamically oriented professional community mental wellness center and largest provider of Muslim mental healthcare in the US. He is also a fellow at the Institute for Social Policy and Understanding at the Global Health Center, conducting research on topics related to Muslims and Mental Health.  Hooman Keshavarzi is a national public speaker and trainer currently serving as a Clinical supervisor of graduate students of clinical psychology at the Village of Hoffman Estates (DHS). He also delivers seminars on specialized topics around multiculturalism and psychology. Hooman Keshavarzi has also authored several published academic papers in recognized peer-reviewed journals on integrating Islamic spirituality into modern psychological practice. Hunain Aijaz started his career in the Islamic Online University as a volunteer in 2008. He was the course creator and facilitator of various courses of the free Diploma section from 2008 to 2010.

He was appointed as the BAIS coordinator in February 2010 and later promoted to be the academic coordinator of the entire institution.

Sr. Kashmala Qasim is currently pursuing a PhD in Psychology at York University, with an emphasis on community engagement research. She holds a Master of Science in Health Neuroscience from the McMaster University/St Joseph’s Healthcare, Hamilton, Canada, and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology Specialist (Co-op Program) from the University of Toronto, Canada. She has an extensive research, knowledge translation, clinical and teaching experience. She conducted oral presentations at several academic conferences; and has an experience with speaking to a diverse audience of international medical professionals, researchers and students. Sr. Kashmala received an “Outstanding Oral Research Presentation” award within the Department of health sciences, McMaster University (2013), and “Teaching Assistant Excellence” awards for undergraduate teaching (2013). Sr. Kashmala is currently leading a knowledge translation project at the McMaster University.

Beyond these school boards, he has extensive experience within the private sector of education. Lailatul Hidayah holds a Master of Computer Science from the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) and a Bachelor of Informatics Engineering, Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS). SVAMP: Sequence Variation Analysis, Maps and Phylogeny; Genomic Data Analysis of a Novel Genome; Trip Segmentation and Trip Purpose Detection are few from among her projects. Currently, Sr. Lailatul is a research assistant at the Monash University Malaysia. Furthermore, she is overseeing a telemedicine project and supervising the final year projects of the IT students.

Laja Yasini began his studies of Islam at the age of 7 at the local madrasah in Gweru Zimbabwe where he later became an Imam. In 2002, he was accepted to study at the main Darool Uloom in Zimbabwe: Darool Uloom Waterfalls.

In 2005, he received a scholarship to continue his studies at the Islamic University of Madinah where he obtained a Diploma in Arabic, Thaanawiya certificate and a Bachelor’s Degree in Sharia.

He is active in da’wah both locally and internationally. He is a site operator for an online da’wah website (chatislamonline.org), head of the Da’wah Department of the Islamic Information Services of Zimbabwe, chairman for Gabriel of Hope Da’wah Foundation, Imaam and khateeb for the Zeenatoel Islam Masjid in Bulawayo Zimbabwe, and a member of the Bulawayo Muslim Association.

Currently, he is pursuing his L.L.B  Degree (Bachelor of Laws) at the University of South Africa while furthering his Sharia degree with a Master’s Degree in Islamic Studies (I.O.U).

 Luqman Plato hails from the shores of Cape Town, South Africa. He always had a sense of enthusiasm to study the religion of Islam. After completing his secondary education, he furthered his studies at the Darul Arqam Institute, where he learnt basic Islamic Studies and Arabic; it was at that point in time, he developed a love for the Arabic Language.

He studied at the Islamic University of Madina, completing the two-year Arabic diploma course, and thereafter graduated from the Faculty of Arabic Language in 2012.

He is currently an Arabic Instructor for the Ummul Qura Institute in Cape Town, and conducts classes in Fiqh, Hadeeth, Qur’ān Reading and Tafseer at various schools.

He is also a Khateeb and is well known for reciting the Qur’ān at mosques all around the Cape.

M. Abdussalam obtained a Bachelor's degree from the Islamic University of Madeenah in Saudi Arabia, and then went on to achieve a Master's degree in 1996 from the same University.
He has participated in the project of translation of Kutbus Sittah in English which was sponsored and published by Darus Salam, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.  His translated works in Urdu have been published in Saudi Arabia and India, as well as his research papers that are published in monthly magazines.  He was a regular Khateeb (in Arabic) at a mosque in Doha, Qatar from 1999-2009.
He is the Head of Department of Islamic Studies at Preston International College in Chennai. He is also involved in Dawah activities across many Islamic centres in the Gulf and India. He often serves as a lecturer, guest speaker, or consultant.

At GBS, he won the Best Speaker award in 2013 and in the same year was conferred with the title ‘Best Manager‘ by India‘s oldest and most reputable business school-IISWBM amidst competition from participants representing XLRI Jamshedpur and IIM Kolkata. His dissertation is on Conventional Banking and Islamic Banking which he has undertaken under Professor Dr. Prithwiraj Banerjee.

In addition to the above, he is a Lecturer and Supervisor- Islamic Banking & Economics Department at Islamic Online University and received his public speaking and da‘wah skills training under Shaykh Arshad Basheer Madani (AskIslampedia) and Brother Ateeq Ahmed, a student of Dr. Zakir Naik.

Mansoor is actively involved in Islamic activities and is a consultant to Iqra International School, Bangalore. He is an active proponent of organizations adopting an Islamic Social Responsibility model or the ISR model (much like the CSR or Corporate Social Responsibility) focusing on relentless social service and creating a platform for doing da‘wah. His lectures focus on our Muslim youth, he discusses youth issues and how young muslims can develop proper Islamic etiquette. He also conducts a unique workshop entitled ‘Heroes of Islam‘ that focuses on motivating the youth and helping them find a good role model. This is a series of workshop which also focuses on building eeman and making a Muslim feel proud of his identity. Mansoor was recently awarded with a ‘Certificate of Appreciation‘ for his da‘wah pursuits by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs and Charitable Distribution, Dubai.

Mariam Fathi is an Egyptian, born and brought up in Makkah. She finished her Bachelors of Arts at Ain Shams University in the year 2006.
In 2003, she completed the Quran Teacher Preparation course at Al_fatth mosque. In 2006, she finished her first Ijazah under the supervision of Ustadah Aisha Abd el raheem, to Hafs An Aasim.
In 2009, she received the Al Azhar Tajweed Certification for the recitation in the way of Hafs an Aasim at the Girls Institute of Quran in Shoubra. She finished studying at Al-Fadellah Institute for religious studies in Nasr City and served as a Quran teacher at the Dar Al-Emaan mosque, Al-Fatth mosque, Hafsa mosque and Fajr Center for teaching Quran to non-Arabic speakers.
In 2010, she finished her second Ijazah for Hafs under the supervision of Sheikha Khadeeja who is known as Umm Ab el-salam. In 2011, she finished her Ijazah for Warsh recitation with the noble teacher Maha Bahy El-Deen. And in 2012, she completed the Ijazah for Ibn Katheer recitation.
These days Maria Fathi is reciting under the guidance of Ustada Maha Bahy, Al kesaiy and Kalaf Al Asher

Mariam Nashat Ahmed is an Egyptian and has done her Bachelor of Science through Ain Shams University, Cairo. She attended the summer school (1993 to 1998) at Dar Al-Eman for teaching Quran in Nasr city, Cairo, Egypt. She completed the Quran Teacher Preparation Course (2008) at Al-fatth Mosque in Heliopolis, Cairo, Egypt. She also received the Al Azhar Tajweed Certification (2006) for the recitation in the way of Hafs ‘an ‘Asim at The Azharic Institute of Qeraat in Shobra, Cairo, Egypt. She served as the summer (1999/2000) Quran teacher at Dar Aleman mosque for teaching Quran located in Nasr city, Cairo, Egypt. In the academic year (2004-2005) she served as the Quran teacher for the kindergarten class at the Ajyad Azhary School, located in Maadi, Cairo, Egypt. She also served as a Quran teacher for kindergarten and grade one, in Jana Dan Islamic International School, located in Maadi, Cairo, Egypt, during the academic year (2005-2006). She was also the Quran, religion and also the fun science Nursery teacher for kids from 2 to 4 years at the Sesame Club Nursery located in Maadi, Cairo, Egypt, during the academic year (2010-2011). She is fluent in both Arabic and English. She is a very patient person, and has excellent interactive skills with students especially kids and has a highly social character with good communication skills.

 Md. Hossain successfully memorized the noble Qur’an at a very tender age. He attended an international competition for the huffaz in Egypt as a representative of Bangladesh in 1994 and in 1998.

Mohammed Irfan Khan was born in Kuwait. He is an Electrical and Electronics Engineer by profession. He is working as a Technical Manager at a prominent Da'wah organization named "Peace Propagation Center " (PPC) in Hyderabad,India.

He completed the Bachelors of Technology in (E.E.E.) Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University. He has obtained a Diploma in Islamic Studies(Aqeedah) (DIS) under Sheikh Hussain Madani, from Peace Propagation Center(PPC), Hyderabad, India.

He has also completed Hifz-ul-Qur'an from Jami'at-ul-khairiyah, Jeddah, KSA. He is a certified Tajweed & Hifz-ul-Qur'an Trainer (Daurat-ul-Muallimeen) from Jami'at-ul-khairiyah, Jeddah, KSA .

He has also completed a short Arabic course under Sheikh Arshad Basheer Madani. He has completed a Da'wah Training under M.I.Ali, the president of PPC and has also gone through a short Da'wah camp under the guidance of Sheikh Arshad Basheer Madani.

He has learned to actively administer Da'wah events and has conducted them in various parts of India. He is also active in online Da'wah campaigns, run by PPC. He has the ability to develop and present educational programs and workshops as well.

Mubeena Ifthikkaruddin is an Indian raised in UAE. After completing her secondary education with distinction from Sharjah, UAE, she completed her ‘Bachelor’s degree in Science’ from India with top aggregate marks receiving the scholarship memorial highest marks Award. An active member at various inter university fest she was entitled the duty of secretary and then of magazine editor at department level. Back in Dubai, while working as a secondary level teacher in the ‘faculty of Science’, UK curriculum, she completed her ‘Bachelor’s in Education’ with distinction. She also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Islamic studies.

Also, after completing her education in various Islamic sciences from an Islamic Institute in Dubai, she has been teaching Tafseer in the same Institute. Currently apart from being a Lecturer in the Department of Education, she is also a Course facilitator in the diploma section of IOU.

An amateur artist and writer (published an e-book & articles), spends her free time indulging in these.

Muhammad Ashraf Petersen is from the beautiful city of Cape Town. After completing his schooling in South Africa he went travelling abroad in pursuit of knowledge. His first stop in his quest for knowledge was then known as the Arab Social Republic of Libya from where he did a diploma in Arabic. Thereafter he had the privileged of moving on to the renowned Al Azhar University where he completed the Al Azhar secondary school. After completing Al Azhar Secondary school, it was his dream come true when he got accepted at the prestige Islamic University of Madina. At the Islamic University of Madina he completed a Arabic diploma before he entered the facility of Shariah and graduated with a BA degree. After that he did a higher diploma in Qadaa wa Siya'sa as'Shariya at the same university.

Currently he os a second year masters degree student at the Islamic University of Madina majoring in comparative jurisprudence.

Mukhtar Raban was born in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. He is a graduate of the Islamic University of Madinah, where he earned a diploma in Arabic Language Studies and a degree in Shari’ah. He has taught for the Al Madinah Institute in Port Elizabeth and regularly conducts Islamic seminars, with a focus on Shari’ah-related topics. He has completed TESOL studies and taught English Studies at various colleges in Saudi Arabia. He is currently completing his master's degree in the field of Applied Linguistics. At present, he is a lecturer at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in Port Elizabeth, South Africa; leads the e-learning unit of the Department of Applied Language Studies and teaches Arabic short courses. He also serves as the Vice-President of the Council of Islamic Affairs and is a member of the Shar’iah Advisory Council in the Eastern Cape, South Africa. Imam Mostafa Nabwy received his BA from the Al Azhar University. Imam Raslan memorized the whole Qur’an at the age of 12. He holds an ijaza in both Hafs and Sho‘bahriwayah with isnaad to the Prophet, (peace and blessings be upon him). He has a BA in Islamic studies in English from Al-Azhar University, faculty of languages and translation Islamic studies department. He also has an MA in the field of scientific interpretation of the Glorious Qur'an from the same department.

He is an imam and preacher in the Egyptian Ministry of Islamic Endowments. He leads prayers, gives speeches and deliver Jumu‘ah khutbas continuously. He was nominated by the U.S. Consulate General Alexandria and selected by the Department of State to participate in the international visitor leadership program for interfaith dialogue.

Riaz Ansary was born in Kabul, Afghanistan, and accepted Islam in 1979.  He graduated from the College of Sharee'ah at the Islamic University of Madeenah in 1993.  He completed his master's degree in Usool al-fiqh at the International Islamic University of Malaysia.
In 1997 he moved to the UAE where he worked as a translator and editor with Dr Bilal Philips, and then as a teacher of Arabic and Islamic studies at the New Muslim Center of Sharjah.  He has appeared frequently as a guest on Sharjah TV’s “Discover Islam Series”, then hosted a show by the same name on the Iqra satellite channel, as well as also appearing on Peace TV.  He has translated a number of Arabic books into English, including biographies of the companion Adee ibn Haatim, the scholar of hadeeth Aboo Daawood al-Sijistaanee, and Muhammad Hamidullah's compilation Political Documents of the Prophet (pbuh).  He is also the author of the book- A Search for Happiness, published by Dar ul-Huda in Chennai, India.
Dr. Riaz is currently in Malaysia pursuing a Ph.D. at the International Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilization.

Wissam El- Tom has a Master's degree in Islamic Studies from Makasid University in Lebanon, in addition to his Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science.
He has the highest certificates in Qur'an Qiraa'at (all 10 ways of reading Qur'an in the original Arabic language with melodies and phonetics) and Quran studies from the Institute of Qur’an Qiraa’at at Al-Azhar Al-Sharif in Egypt.  He has the "Sanad" (ijazah) -linked to the Prophet (sallallahualayhiwasallam in ten Qiraa'at sugra and kubra from the leading scholars in Egypt of this field internationally.  He was the winner of the International Quran Recitation and Memorization Competition held amongst 125 countries which was organized by Al-Azhar Al-Sharif and the Awkaf Ministry in Egypt.
He has authored many books in the ten Qiraa’at of Quran, and has also composed a poem in the original Arabic language comprising of 1175 verses on an area of Quranic studies.  He speaks three languages - English, French and Arabic.
Wissam El- Tom lives in Montreal, Canada where he has been an Imam for several mosques and is the director of the Attibyan Institute for ten Qiraa’at and Quran studies. He is also working towards gaining a Ph.D in Islamic Studies.

Yosof Wanly is a PhD candidate in the Sciences of Hadith (Ulum ul Hadith). He holds an MA in the Sciences of Hadith, and a BA in general Islamic Studies with an emphasis on the Sciences of Hadith from the Al-Madinah International University, and a BcS in Public Health: Health Management and Policy from Oregon State University. Furthermore, he holds a Master of Theology in Islamic Studies from Graduate Theological Foundation.

He traveled extensively in search of knowledge and wisdom, and as a researcher, he authored many scholastic works such as The Explanation of Narrations, A Philosophical Observations on God - An Islamic Perspective, Insightful Dreams of the Prophetic Realm,  The chain of Narrations and Traveling in its Search, The Authentic Compilation of the Sunnah, The Fabricated Narrations, The two signs: Contradiction and Individual Isolation, The Creed of the "Ashaira" in the Names and Attributes of God, The Theory of Abrogation in the Quran, and The Rulings of the Quran by the Qadi Ismael al-Maliki.

Prof. Wanly memorized Quran with different ijazat in its memorization and recitation methods. Furthermore, he has a number of Ijazaat in Prophetic traditions including ijaza in Isnad (chain of transmission).  He has studied numerous respected ahadith of the Prophet Muhammad with memorization of chain of transmitters, scholarly statements, plentiful historical Islamic accords and their dates, and ample scholarly poetry.

Prof.Wanly spent a considerable amount of time studying classical Islamic works in an organized fashion such as: Sahih Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, Sunan Abu Dawud, Sunan at-Tirmithi,  Muwata Imam Malik, Adab ul Mufrad, Bulugh ul Maram, Tafsir ul Qurtubi,Tafsir ibn Kathir, Bidaya wa Nihaya, Al-Istithkaar for Umar bin Abdul Bar, Seyar a`lam un-nubala  and others.

Currently, he is a Professor with Al-Huda University (USA), is a Khateeb and Imam of various Mosques, and is further pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in Islamic Studies  with  the Graduate Theological Foundation; an educational system involved with Oxford University.

Yusuf Gassiep (Abu Hamza) was born in 1981 and raised in Manenberg on the Cape Flats. After completing high school he performed Hajj in 1999 and then travelled to Egypt to meet up with his hifth teacher from Cape Town who at the time was also in Egypt pursuing higher studies. It was in the dusty city of Cairo where he spent the following 9 years of his life enrolled at the Al Azhar Institute and later majored in Hadith at the Al Azhar University’s faculty of Usoolu Deen. He attended the classes of many of the Ulamah in cairo at the various mosques of Jamaat Ansaru Sunah Al Muhamadeyah. Some of his teachers are Dr Mohammed Yousri, Sheikh Shareef Husain Abdul Qadir, Sheikh Tariq ibn Iwadullah, Sheikh Osama Sulaiman ,and Dr Omar Abdul Azeez .He also attended the monthly lectures of Sheikh Mustafa Al Adawi.  

He had the opportunity of attending the lectures of Sheikh Safwat Nurudeen (rahimahu ALLAH) , Sheikh Abi Ishaq Al Huwaini and Sheikh Mohammed Hassan whenever they visited Cairo.

He also completed the Fajr Centre Arabic courses and pursued the Khitaba course offered by the Fajr Centre. One of the first books he ever bought as a student of knowledge was Sheikh ibn Uthaymeen’s (rahimahu ALLAH) Explanation of Al Aqeedah Al Wasitiyah and since then he developed a great love for Sheikh ibn Uthaymeens work's.

On his return to South Africa in 2008, he was offered a post as an English teacher in Buraidah Saudi Arabia. He then travelled to Saudi Arabia and worked there till January 2011. During his stay there he was involved with the Buraidah Dawa Centre and was a Hajj guide for new Muslims.

In 2011 he became the first Imam of the Town Centre Mosque in Cape Town South Africa. Currently, he is an instructor at the Al huda foundation which offers short courses on various topics.

Zahra Anwer  was brought up in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. After completing her bachelor's in Commerce, she joined the Dar Al Huda Qur'an School for Tajweed and was blessed to study with the wonderful teachers there. She studied tajweed under the supervision of  Sheikhah Kareema Carol Czerepinski [the author of a series of the three books called 'Tajweed Rules of the Qur'an.]. She completed her four years there and got an ijazah. She also completed short courses of- tawheed,tafseer and fiqh us sunnah. She was blessed to study tafseer and basic fiqh with Umm Muhammad [the author and translator of Saheeh International Publications], and other amazing sisters at the Islamic Cultural Center in Jeddah.
